We are going to give you a hyper speed look into everything going on in the world which can influence the Valentine’s Day holiday for the entire industry- the more we are aware and know the better decisions we can make like booking early and having plan B & C.

Corona is dropping in the States and hopefully this will help logistics, labor issues, and demand! The drop in Florida is especially helpful”

“New coronavirus case numbers, hospitalizations continue steep drop as omicron surge subsides”

State of the virus from the New York Times

  • “New coronavirus cases are falling rapidly across the country. But hospitalizations remain near peak levels, and deaths are rising.

  • Eastern states hit early by the Omicron variant are seeing especially pronounced declines. New cases are down more than 70 percent in the last two weeks in New York and New Jersey.

  • More than 2,500 deaths are being announced most days, a figure that continues to grow. Daily death reports remain below the peak levels seen last winter. But at the current pace, the United States would reach 900,000 total coronavirus deaths by mid-February.

  • About 145,000 patients with the virus are hospitalized nationwide, down slightly from last week but still higher than in any previous surge.

  • Even as the national data improves, a few states continue to see spikes in new cases. In Montana, infections have reached record levels and hospitalizations continue to rise.

  • But across most of the country, Omicron is starting to retreat. Colorado, Florida, Illinois and Louisiana are among the states seeing rapid improvement.”

Unfortunately, the most recent CDC warnings for Colombia and Ecuador are level 4 Very High and Level 3 High respectively. This problem may create labor issues at the farm and airports not experienced pre-covid.

Level 3: High Level of COVID-19 in Ecuador (CDC0

We have all most likely heard of the Canadian/Mexican/US pandemic-related border related to the vaccination. The U.S. closed its borders to unvaccinated and partially vaccinated Canadian and Mexican truck drivers per the Department of Homeland Security. The U.S. will close its borders to unvaccinated and partially vaccinated Canadian and Mexican truck drivers on Saturday, the Department of Homeland Security said on Thursday.

Thanks to a booming demand for air cargo airlines with a larger presence in cargo are more profitable and cash positive. They are ordering new as well as converting former passenger planes into cargo planes.

Air transport has hit record rates especially for the Valentine’s peak. The lack of aerial transport and the increase of the costs of the aerial transport will make this year extremely interesting.

“A new Federal Aviation Administration regulation prohibiting Boeing 747-8 freighters and all 777 widebody aircraft from landing at airports where 5G towers might interfere with onboard safety equipment could have a disproportionate impact on major cargo airlines like UPS, FedEx and Atlas Air.

Nearly 80% of the U.S. commercial fleet has been deemed safe to operate around 5G antennas, but about 336 aircraft (largely used for air cargo) under U.S. registry and 1,714 worldwide have been impacted by the rule. “(from the publication FreightWaves)

Air freight, Trucking, and ground handling will all be challenging for some time to come.

The new normal has changed our world. Forecasting and guessing may now be the same thing.

Snippet Summary

Many factors influence Valentines. It is best when it is a win win for Growers, logistic companies, importers, wholesalers, and retailers. This year we have a large amount of curve balls to deal with.

Usually, it is weather at farm level and if the production is on time and most important that the flowers are of top quality. This year we have all the usual variables plus a whole hosts of curve balls we must overcome. Everyone will answer the rally call and give it their all to make this a successful holiday for all parties. Operate at the highest efficiency level possible. All industries are facing the same problems and consumers know the world has changed.

In the end the most important part of the equation is satisfying the consumer. Without the consumer we have no industry. So as Bill Belichick says, “Do your Job!” It’s teamwork. Work with your floral and logistic partners. Don’t wait till the last minute and then beat them up for it. If we are all considerate of the moving parts and the roles we all play, we will all succeed!

Thank You,
